THE KING'S RING | Everything happens. This too shall pass.

Once, a king of a country not far away gathered the wise men of his court and said to them:

  • "I have had a precious diamond ring made by one of the best goldsmiths in the area. I want to keep, hidden inside the ring, some words that can help me in difficult times. A message that I can turn to in times of total despair. I would like that message to help my heirs and the children of my heirs in the future. It has to be small, so that it will fit under the diamond in my ring."

All those who listened to the king's wishes were great sages, scholars who could have written great treatises... but to think of a message containing two or three words that would fit under a diamond of a ring? Very difficult. So they thought, and searched their philosophy books for many hours, without finding anything that would fit the wishes of the mighty king.

The king had a very dear servant close to him. This man, who had also been his father's servant, and had taken care of him when his mother had died, was treated like family and enjoyed the respect of all.

The king, for these reasons, also consulted him. And he said to him:

  • "I am not a sage, nor a scholar, nor a scholar, but I know the message."

  • "How do you know it asked the king"?

  • "During my long life in the Palace, I have met all kinds of people, and once I met a master. He was a guest of your father, and I was in his service. When he left us, I accompanied him to the door to see him off, and as a gesture of thanks he gave me this message."

At that moment the old man wrote on a tiny piece of paper the aforementioned message. He folded it and handed it to the king.

  • "But don't read it," he said. "Keep it tucked away in the ring. Open it only when you find no way out of a situation."

That moment was not long in coming, the country was invaded and his kingdom was threatened.

He was fleeing on horseback to save his life, while his enemies pursued him. He was alone, and the pursuers were numerous. At one point, he came to a place where the road ended, and in front of him was a precipice and a deep valley.

To fall down it would be fatal. He could not turn back, for the enemy closed the way. He could hear the trot of horses, the voices, the approach of the enemy.

It was then that he remembered about the ring. He took out the paper, opened it and there he found a small message tremendously valuable for the moment...

It simply said "THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN".

At that moment he was aware that a great silence was hovering over him, a great silence.

The enemies pursuing him must have been lost in the forest, or they must have taken the wrong path. But the truth is that an immense silence surrounded him. The trotting of horses could no longer be felt.

The king felt deeply grateful to the servant and the unknown master. Those words had been miraculous. He folded the paper, put it back in the ring, gathered his army again and reconquered his kingdom.

On the day of the victory, there was a great celebration in the city with music and dancing...and the king was very proud of himself.

At that moment, again the old man was at his side and said to him:

  • "Dear king, the time has come for you to read again the message of the ring."

  • "What do you mean?" asked the king. "Now I am living a situation of euphoria and joy, people are celebrating my return, we have defeated the enemy."

  • "Listen," said the old man. "This message is not only for desperate situations, it is also for pleasant situations. It is not only for when you feel defeated, it is also for when you feel victorious. It is not only for when you are the last, it is also for when you are the first."

The king opened the ring and read the message... "THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN."

And, again he felt the same peace, the same silence, in the midst of the crowd celebrating and dancing. But the pride, the ego was gone. The king could finish understanding the message. The bad was as transitory as the good.

Then the old man said to him:

  • "Remember that everything passes. No event or emotion is permanent. Like day and night; there are moments of joy and moments of sadness. Accept them as part of the duality of nature because they are the very nature of things."

In the captivating tale of "The King's Ring", we encounter the wisdom of a monarch in search of a ring that holds the key message to find serenity in joy and remember that, in times of difficulty, everything is ephemeral. This tale, like life itself, immerses us in the profound lesson of impermanence, urging us to embrace it in order to face challenges with calm and acceptance.

Following this line of thought, the famous expression "Everything happens and this too shall pass" brings to our awareness the transience of circumstances, whether positive or negative. It invites us to savor with gratitude the happy moments, knowing that their duration is ephemeral, and to remain resilient in difficult times, trusting that adversity will also have its outcome.

From a holistic healing perspective, we understand that wellness encompasses more than physical health, incorporating emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. Negative experiences and emotions carried over from the past can impact our overall health and our relationships, both with ourselves and with others.

This is where key terms such as "transgenerational," "ancestors" and "family loyalties" emerge. In holistic healing, it is held that traumas and behavioral patterns can be passed down from generation to generation, influencing the present lives of descendants. Family loyalties, often veiled, can anchor us in dysfunctional dynamics or decisions that are less beneficial to our personal evolution.

Holistic healing reflection leads us to look inward, exploring our connections to the past to identify inherited patterns that may influence our current life. In this liberating process, we unravel unresolved emotional burdens, healing both ourselves and our ancestors. In this way, we allow ourselves to live a fuller and more authentic life.
